Lodestone House, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, delivers catering and hospitality services across leading independent schools. At Uppingham School, catering opportunities are spread across boarding house kitchens and hospitality venues, with smaller teams working as part of the wider school catering operation.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Hub Senior Sous Chef to join our catering team at Uppingham School. Working within the Hub, you will play a key role in leading food production and supporting the delivery of high-quality food across the School’s catering operation.

Uppingham is a vibrant co-educational boarding school where the houses are at the heart of school life. With pupils and staff eating together as a house community, the Hub plays an important role in ensuring food is fresh, nutritious and consistently delivered to a high standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Hub Senior Sous Chef who enjoys working in a busy production kitchen, leading and developing a team, and maintaining excellent standards of food quality and service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the senior leadership and Head Chef team with the day-to-day running of the Hub kitchen and wider food production operation.

• Take a hands-on role in preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality food to agreed standards.

• Lead, supervise and support the kitchen team during food production and service, creating a positive, professional and well-organised working environment.

• Coordinate food production to meet daily requirements and service deadlines.

• Support menu delivery across the School, ensuring recipes, specifications, portion sizes and presentation standards are consistently followed.

• Contribute creative ideas to menu development and continuous improvement of the food offer.

• Monitor stock levels, ordering, portion control and waste to support effective cost management.

• Ensure food safety, allergen, HSE, COSHH and HACCP procedures are followed and maintained to high standards.

• Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, organisation and food hygiene throughout the kitchen.

• Work closely with the wider Lodestone House catering team to support a consistent food experience across the School.

• Support special events, functions and high-volume catering requirements when required.

WHO YOU ARE

• An experienced Hub Senior Sous Chef with a background in a busy professional kitchen or high-volume catering environment.

• Passionate about fresh, high-quality food and delivering an excellent dining experience.

• Confident leading, motivating and developing a kitchen team.

• Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.

• Creative and enthusiastic, with an interest in menu development and new food ideas.

• Experienced in food production, menu delivery, stock control and waste management.

• Knowledgeable about food safety, HACCP, allergen management, HSE and COSHH.

• A strong communicator who works well with colleagues across the wider catering and School teams.

• Calm, professional and hands-on, leading by example.

• Ideally qualified to City & Guilds 706/1 & 2, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent, with a Food Hygiene qualification.
